Super-Scripty!

Nice lunch today with Veronica Lupu and Joe Cirillo near the Kaufman Astoria Studios. Veronica is a much-in-demand script supervisor who has worked with many top directors….and she is part of Team Megaball$ !  Veronica will look over the screenplay to see if her experienced eyes see any issues, then she’s off to do another film with director Ira Sachs. Excited to have her in our project and looking forward to working...

It’s not all fiction!

Those who have read the script for MegaBall$ often point out the suspension of belief needed to accept that there could be a possible mathematical solution to predicting lottery numbers. After all, numbers are randomly drawn. The odds of picking all 6 of the Powerball numbers are i in 292,201,338. You have better chance of being killed on the way to purchasing the ticket. Richard Lustig, who was going to make a cameo in our film but recently passed away, won seven grand prizes. However, there have been two documented cases were algorithms have done very well! One was a case where a group of MIT students gamed the system in Massachusetts in 2005, winning millions. They found a flaw in the state run game called “Cash WinFall.” They won millions, and it led to the state to changing the game. Read more HERE, HERE and HERE. More recently, Stefan Mandel, a Romanian-born Australian mathematician/economist, defied the 1 in 14 million odds and won 12 major wins. READ MORE. So the concept is not totally impossible, and there is a grain of truth to what our inept would-be heroes attempt in MegaBall$. Hey, you never know when your number’s...

Sect 181 Grandfathered

MegaBall$ is Section 181 Grandfathered The federal film tax incentive known as Section 181 expired December 31st, 2016. The incentive allows film investors to minimize their risk by deducting their investment against passive income as soon as spending begins (capitalization of the offering). A bill has been introduced to once again renew but, based on past renewals – and considering how slow Washington moves, and a new administration – we can anticipate many months will pass before the bill comes to a vote; and who knows if it will pass. We can be sure there will be a gap until such time 181 renews where investors cannot deduct their investment as per the incentive. We at Oroloro Entertainment are happy to report that our comedy feature film MegaBall$ has been grandfathered in, and the tax benefit for investors did not expire, but remains with our project. This gives us a very specific advantage over other films not covered by 181, making our project more attractive to prospective investors. Combining the benefits of 181 and state/local incentives, investors can see a substantial reduction in the financial risks of film investment. For more information on how Sect. 181 can benefit you check with your tax advisor – or, if you wish, send us an email and we will connect you with our lawyer (who was very involved in the drafting of Sect. 181). You may also ‘Google’ “Section 181” to see many legal opinions of the...

Lin Tucci loves MegaBall$

We’re very excited to welcome Lin Tucci to our MegaBall$ support team. Lin is a 2015 SAG Award winning actress best known as Anita DeMarco, a series regular on the hit Netflix series, Orange is the New Black (OITNB) We had the pleasure of first meeting Lin during a SAG-AFTRA event in New York and immediately hit it off, joking and talking about … salami! She is a joy, very funny and endearing. Lin agreed to read MegaBall$ but warned that it may take some time because she is shooting OITNB, but in a very short time responded, “Bravo, what a great script!…Sooo many things resonate for me….Your characters and storyline are rich in content….Fun and fast!…Your devotion to detail is profoundly admirable” We agree with Lin, that the role of Rosa and Lin is a perfect fit, “fun, and would be a blast to create.” Visit Lin’s web site HERE And her IMDB page HERE. #LinTucci #OITNB...

Finalist: World Series of ScreenWriting

We’re very pleased to announce that MegaBall$ was a finalist in the comedy division of the 2016 World Series of Screenwriting. Of many hundreds of entries our comedy made it to the Top 10 Comedy Screenplays….a placement to be proud of! MegaBall$ was a semi-finalists in the 2015 ScreenCraft Comedy Competition; of 1,260 entire it ranked in the top 10%, and was a quarter-finalist in the 2016 Screencraft competition. There are so many competitions around the world for screenplays, but few offer subdivisions by genre – something we believe all competitions should offer. After all, how can a comedy compete against a dram against a sci-fi thriller? We have had very positive comments from other submissions. For example, both Slamdance and the Tribeca Film Institute called the project very commercial and enjoyable. We’re confident that the project will sell – so, off we got after the production funds…and we’ll be attending the Sundance Film Festival in January 2017, promoting and networking…....

Going to Sundance Film Festival

It’s official – Oroloro partners, Joe Cirillo and Marc Baron, will be taking our MegaBall$ to the Sundance Film Festival in Jan 2017. At the recommendation of our new film lawyer and co-executive producer, Corky Kessler, we’ll join him and a other clients at Sundance Jan 21st to the 25th. In addition to experiencing Sundance for the first time, this will give us some  great networking opportunities. As we did at the Toronto Film Fest, we’ll use this trip as a chance to promote the development of our comedy feature, while attending panel events on indie film. Corky has already set up three-days’ of events for us to attend, with more on the way. We also hope to attend one of the SAG-AFTRA brunches. If you’ll be in Sundance give us a shout out! Unlike Toronto, this time we’ve planned far enough in advance to begin to reach out to sales reps, distributors (and others) and try to set up a few meet and greets. Accommodations are booked, air travel all set – we’re on the way! Between now until then – just 92 days – our project will go live on Opening Night Capital (ONC), an investment portal design primarily for Broadway and Off-Broadway plays – and the first such portal to go live under the new SEC rules. The producer/owner liked MegaBall$ so much that they wish to help us and list our film as well. ONC has a public side and private side, and a mailing list of 100’s of accredited investors experienced in angel investments. Our legal reboot this summer makes our offering SEC Rule 506c compliant, and allows us to publicly...

Poster Update

As part of our overhaul and reboot of our development process, we’ve redesigned out development poster. Working from a crude mock-up, our production designer, Roger C. Ambrose, came up with an exciting design. The image will be used on the cover of all promotional materials, and will be the anchor of our one-sheet. We’re very fortunate to have Roger on our creative team. Using images from the lotto, our logo (title spelled out on lotto balls) and hiding algorithms in the background, the design sums up the gist of the film. Although we’ve released the image here, the real rollout will be at the Toronto Film Festival 2016, where we’ll be guests on a panel … and networking …and networking….and...
